In FY 1998, we significantly reduced total volumes for CO2, NOx, and SOx emissions. However, in terms of emissions volume per unit, there was no major change in NOx or SOx. At the same time, absolute volume of CO2 emissions decreased in conjunction with the decrease in production volume, but inefficiencies in production and distribution led to an actual increase in emissions volume per unit. Future polices will strive to reduce emissions volume per unit by streamlining production, increasing energy efficiency in production, using trucks more efficiently and increasing distribution efficiency.
