1. Sale of the World's First Hormone Disrupter Receptor Coupling Measurement System

There is a rush to fully understand the mechanisms of hormone disrupters, which interfere with the operation of the endocrine system and are a critical concern. TaKaRa has introduced a kit to measure whether suspected hormone disrupters couple with receptors, enabling easy detection of actual hormone disrupters.

Former mechanical analytical technology could only indicate presence of suspected hormone disrupters, but our technology shows whether hormone receptors are actually being coupled. Even the intensity of the coupling can be quickly detected.

We are continuing research into hormone disrupters, studying such issues as the mechanism by which the flavonoids and catechins in tea couple with female hormone receptors to reduce the harmful effect of disrupters.

2. Using Genetic Analysis Technology to Prevent the Poaching of Rare Animals

TaKaRa genetic analysis technology is contributing to halting the extinction of rare animals. For example, together with the Institute of Cetacean Research, an extra-governmental organization under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, we have begun genetic profiling of whale species protected from commercial hunting. Comparison with the genetic makeup of whale meat on the market helps expose poaching.

Furthermore, we have developed technology that can effectively and precisely detect the presence of genetically altered agricultural products, a subject of recent concern, and have received many contracts for analytical services. In ways such as these, TaKaRa is focusing on the possibilities of biotechnology in finding solutions to problems facing humanity.
