Fermentation is the basic process in distilling. Thanks to microorganisms, this process is not as energy-intensive as other industries. TaKaRa now uses less water than it used to, but due to the production of products in greater variety, TaKaRa's energy consumption is growing, slowly but perceptibly, both in absolute and in per-unit-produced terms, despite our efforts to save energy through the introduction of co-generation systems.
