Promoting Environmental Communication and Supporting the Structure of Related Activities
|
| Takara Shuzo has obtained integrated certification of ISO14001 and established a system to develop companywide environmental activities. Furthermore, we promote bilateral communication to respond to the needs of our stakeholders. |
Participation in the Ecoproducts Exhibition
Takara Shuzo exhibits at Ecoproducts, Japans largest exhibition for new environmentally friendly products held at Tokyo Big Sight. We exhibited eco-friendly products including the bulk sale system and Velotaxi (bicycle taxi), which is being utilized now by a nonprofit organization in Kyoto as part of efforts to tackle global warming. We also implemented the Takara Shuzo Environmental Quiz, in which visitors answer questions written on panels in our company booth. During the three-day exhibition we welcomed 5,000 visitors. We consider this exhibition as an opportunity to receive the valuable opinions of consumers in regard to our environmental efforts. |
Various efforts on the Internet
The Takara Shuzo environmental website, Takara Environmental Activities, was upgraded in April 2005 to provide the latest information on our activities. In April 2006, the Eco Kids corner of the website was separated into an independent new site Takara for Kids, which is a comprehensive website on targeting childrenthe leaders of the next generationlinked to a site offering a factory tour of Takara Hon-Mirin.
In addition, we were able to set up the Rice and Sake School Blog thanks to the cooperation of Environment goo, an environmental portal site, which provides the latest environment-related information and promotes bilateral communications.
Environmental Accounting
While Upstream/Downstream Costs, including recycling contract fees for containers and packaging recycling, have been declining among Takara Shuzos environmental costs, Global Environmental Conservation Costs such as for the reduction of CO2 emissions to combat global warming are on the increase. The fact that the Earth is becoming ever warmer despite the environmental costs paid by companies and society means that there is still an environmental cost that companies and society cannot cover. What is important for companies and public entities is to take over the burden shouldered by the global environment to prevent the deterioration of global warming. A future challenge for us all is to determine the scope of the Global Environmental Conservation Costs and Upstream/Downstream Costs we will pay to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions including CO2.
