For Our Customers' iki-iki (Happiness)

“Think Health” with Our Customers in Mind

Takara Shuzo is promoting proper drinking habits for the benefit of our customers’ health. We also established a new company within the Takara Group to offer functional health food to more customers.

We are implementing activities to promote proper drinking habits for the health of customers.

Activities to Promote Proper Drinking Habits

A reasonable amount of drink can relieve stress and facilitate smooth communication. On the other hand, drinking brings certain other problems such as disruptions to health from overdrinking, underage drinking and drunk driving. To take responsibility as a company that produces and sells alcohol we promote moderate drinking and, in fact, Takara Shuzo was among the first companies to deal with this issue. In 1985, we launched the “Say No” Campaign, with the catchphrase of “Good day, good drinking and good manners.” We spread this message in a variety of forms. In 1986, we published our first pamphlet, the “Say No Reader,” and we are now distributing the “Say No! Press,” that was updated in 1995, upon request.
In 2004, the alcoholic beverage industry decided to attach labels with warning statements for pregnant women to containers of alcoholic beverages. Responding quickly to this decision, we included such labels on all our products. In 2005, we placed an advertisement in newspapers to instill proper drinking habits. It read: “Let’s think about good drinking!” At the Eco Products Exhibition in December 2005, we also included a message calling for proper drinking on the Eco Quiz paper.

Since 2004, the Rice and Sake School has offered various programs on alcohol-related social issues such as underage drinking to instill proper drinking habits. Using illustrations of the adverse effects of alcohol and incorporating a lecture by a nurse, the class gives a detailed explanation—in a manner that children can understand—on the reasons why children should not drink alcohol, how to deal with alcohol wisely when they become adults and the reasons why no drinking is allowed during pregnancy, breastfeeding or when driving a car.
