Takara Delivers Healthy Food for Customers



Establishment of Takara Healthcare Inc.

The Takara Group established Takara Healthcare Inc., as a wholly owned subsidiary of Takara Holdings Inc. in September 2006. This move represents Takara’s commitment to offer healthy foodstuffs that utilize original ingredients of Takara Bio Inc. and other Group companies to an expanded number of customers.



Basic Policies of Takara Healthcare

Takara Healthcare primarily undertakes the sale of products brought about as a result of research and development at Takara Bio Inc.
Even before the split-up of the Takara Group companies, the former biomedical business division of Takara Shuzo marketed “Fucoidan Drink” and “Nomu Kanten.” In particular, the Fucoidan series extracted by Takara’s original technology from Gagome kombu (kelp) in Japan are long-standing product lines that celebrated the 10th anniversary of their initial launch last December.
Takara Healthcare is particular about utilizing the Group companies’ original ingredients to support customers’ healthy lives. The company will expand its business based on its solid research results, by using ingredients derived from traditional Japanese foods, typified by Gagome kombu fucoidan, Angelica keiskei chalcone, agar agaoligo and mushroom polyterpene.

Introduction of Ashidaba (Angelica keiskei) products

Ashitaba is a healthy herb with strong vitality as indicated by the saying, “If Ashitaba leaves are picked today, new leaves will be in place by tomorrow.” It is indigenous to Japan and is an umbelliferous perennial plant. It has long been valued highly, particularly in the Izu Islands. The Takara Group was quick to recognize the function of Ashitaba in regard to maintaining good health and has focused much energy on the manufacture and sale of Ashidaba products.
Two main advantages of the Ashitaba products manufactured by Takara Bio and marketed by Takara Healthcare are: only safe and reliable Ashitaba leaves produced in Japan in carefully prepared soil are used; the products are fortified with vitamins, minerals and dietary fibers in a balanced manner and contain a high degree of chalcone, which is a functional polyphenol constituent of Ashitaba.

Community-Based Activities

As a community-based business activity, raw materials for Takara Bio’s Ashitaba products are produced at vast company farms in Osaki-cho, Soo-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture and on the world-heritage listed Yakushima Island (Kamiyaku-cho, Kumage-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture).
Moreover, Takara Healthcare undertakes activities to contribute to local communities. As one example, in May 2007, it sponsored the 14th Cho-Shizen Yakushima Two-Day March.
