How much did we spend on environmental conservation?
Takara Shuzo’s costs to reduce the environmental impact of production include investment in and maintenance of pollution prevention facilities, sewer system charges, pollution levies, and industrial waste recycling costs. In addition, the costs for operating ISO 14001, environmental advertising, eco-product system management (for bulk sales and returnables), recycling of containers and packaging and for social contribution activities (such as the Harmonist Fund and NPO support) are accounted for as main cost items. Reflecting the characteristics of our business, “business area costs” to reduce the impact of production on the environment at plants and “upstream/downstream costs” to contribute to recycling containers and packaging accounted for a large portion of the total cost.
