| Takara Shuzo distributes its products throughout Japan, using a system of cooperation between the distribution management division in charge of receiving orders and Takara Butsuryu System Co., Ltd. in charge of delivery, with the eastern and western distribution centers functioning as bases. With our efficient distribution and environmentally-friendly driving system, we are pursuing activities to reduce emissions of CO2, NOx and Sox, which are the most significant contributors to environmental pollution in the distribution phase. |
| Promoting Safety and an Environmentally-Friendly Driving System |
Takara Butsuryu System Co., Ltd. was approved as a business with good safety practices in 2003 and obtained ISO 9001 certification to improve the quality of the distribution service in 2004 (Main Office and Kansai branch were certified). In December 2004, the company started environmental activities to obtain Green Management certification by the Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport, and acquired certification in August 2005. The company stipulated environmental policies in March 2005 and established environmentally-friendly driving promotion committees in both the east and west regions, which are responsible for arranging a framework and educating employees.
In our efforts to promote environmentally-friendly driving, eco-drive navigation systems have been installed on all trucks in the west region. In addition to the current efforts to cut out idling and encourage driving at economical speeds, the company has endeavored to improve gas mileage by 10%. It will switch over its vehicles to hybrid cars and diesel vehicles that conform to the latest regulations. A rule has been established that vehicles will be changed when daily inspections reveal that black smoke emissions from the vehicle have increased.
* Green management certification: certification given by the Foundation for Promoting Personal Mobility and Ecological Transportation, an extra governmental organization of the Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport. Based on the green management promotion manuals, business establishments engaged in a certain level of environmental conservation are certified and registered as such after examination.

When products are delivered from a delivery center to customers, if the truck returns to the delivery center empty, its distribution efficiency is lower than if it carries packages both ways to customers and back to the delivery center. Takara Shuzo has successfully reduced the number of vehicles and thus reduced CO2 emissions by the use of an advanced information system that selects the optimum mode of transportation and route, by the efficient use of returning trucks, and by introducing modal shift (rail transportation) for long-distance transportation, with its two distribution centers in the east and west regions functioning as distribution bases.
From October 2000, Takara has engaged in joint delivery services with Sapporo Breweries Ltd. in Hokkaido. In the Tohoku and Northern Kanto area , we have also cooperated with sake brewers from Nada and Fushimi since October 2001. We have also implemented joint delivery with sake brewers in the metropolitan area and Hokuriku region to improve distribution efficiency since February 2000.
In 1998, we introduced plastic pallets with a longer durability than the wooden pallets that had been used up till then.
