Behind the +25 ECO Environmental Impact Reduction Green Ink Indicator
- FY 1999 production decreased 2% from FY 1997, resulting in a natural 2 ECO increase. The remaining 23 ECO are green ink stemming from corporate efforts.
- Last year, "Actual Green Ink Corporate Efforts" accounted for 14 ECO (22 ECO - 8 ECO), which means that this year we increased "Actual Green Ink Corporate Efforts" by 9 ECO.
- The main factors accounting for the increase over FY 1998 are:
| Improvement of the recycle rate of Factory Wastes |
| 31% (FY 1997) |
 |
80% (FY 1998) |
 |
97% (FY 1999) |
| Reduction of fuel consumption due to promotion of energy-efficient distillation |

 |
5.121 mil m3 (FY 1999) |
| Increase in collection rate of returnable bottles |
| 88% (FY 1997) |
 |
89% (FY 1998) |
 |
91% (FY 1999) |
| Increased recycled content in glass bottles |
| 67% (FY 1997) |
 |
74% (FY 1998) |
 |
79% (FY 1999) |
- Although production fell 2% from FY 1997 to FY 1999, we reduced container and packaging wastes a full 27%. Although part of this can be attributed to an increase in the collection rate and recycling rate, some is attributable to the switchover from heavy glass bottles to lighter PETE bottles and paper cartons. Although the total weight of waste is decreased, this cannot be sweepingly called environmental improvement
- Electricity consumption increased in FY 1999 due to a temporary stoppage of our in-house power generation.
| Social Contribution Green Ink: -20 ECO (FY98 -17 ECO) |
Social Contribution Green Ink
Behind the -20 ECO Social Contributions Green Ink Indicator
The "Social Contributions Green Ink indicator" for FY 1999 decreased 3 ECO from FY 1998 to -20 ECO. The decrease in contributions in FY 1999 from FY 1998 is due to a reduction in expenditures for existing campaigns (e.g. Keep the Shimanto River Clean Campaign) and a decrease in funds for new campaigns.
