Expenses for Environmental Preservation and Reductions in Impacts

Environmental accounting as a tool for effectively reduce environmental impacts throughout society.
Environmental accounting is a concept that converts environmental impact into quantifiable environmental costs; it's a tool to promote effective environmental activity throughout society. From individual actions to corporate activities, our activities create an impact on the environment. By paying a cost (the cost of environmental conservation activities), this environmental impact can be reduced. We equate this monetary cost with a reduction in a like amount of physical environmental impact.
Corporations pay costs through appropriate processing and recycling of waste materials, and, as a consequence, work toward reducing the environmental impact they cause. Furthermore, society (government) collects a tax (cost) to reduce the environmental impact of household generated waste through incineration and landfill.
However, despite these environmental costs that corporations and society pay, environmental destruction progresses. This means that there are environmental costs not met by what society and corporations pay; the environment pays the remaining cost by using itself up. Cost paid by the environment equals environmental destruction.
What's needed now is for corporations and government to stop the progress of environmental destruction by shouldering the cost the global environment is paying. To do this, we need to let society know how much money is being spent on issues and how much impact has been reduced as a result. By sharing information and encouraging cooperation between corporations and society, it will become clear which environmental activities have the greatest result in reducing environmental impact throughout society.
TaKaRa recognizes the social meaning of this kind of environmental accounting, taking action centered around "Comparative Effectiveness Environmental Accounting", and the publication of environmental accounting information.
